Sar Pass Trek-Overview

The Sar Pass is located in the Parvati valley of Kasol at Kullu district in Himachal Pradesh. Where ‘Sar’ in local dialect denotes Lake. It is situated at an elevation of 13,700 ft. above sea level. The trek originates from the famous village of Kasol and is a Paradise for all backpackers.The valley is well covered by the snow clad mountains, waterfalls and lush green meadows. Here one has to pass by the frozen lake. Being one of the spectacular places of Himalaya it is one of the best locations for the hikers and photographers from where the marvellous view can be witnessed. Here one can get the opportunity to explore  the wonderful valley, unique landscapes, colourful flowers and crystal-clear streams. As per the difficulty level Sar Pass ranges from ‘easy-moderate’ tag no prior trekking experience is required, and it is the beginners trek.

I.Breathtaking views of the famous Himalayan Forests

The famous trek starts from the village of Kasol, which is definitely a backpackers paradise. The trail cuts through the melange of dense forests of Pine and beautiful blooming Rhododendrons lush, lush meadows and hamlets. These forests are home to many wildlife including Himalayan brown bear and Himalayan Tahr. 

II.Bird lover’s paradise

Sar Pass is the ideal destination to witness many rare species of birds. There are more than 200 species of fascinating and colourful bird which includes White-cheeked Tit, Cheer Pheasant and many more.

III.Camping

Once started at Kasol, the Sar Pass Trek stretches over 4 days. One will get an enjoyable and unforgettable chance to spend the nights in the Alpine tents. After a long hours of trek these camps are the ideal choice to relax and refresh. Lying under the sky full of stars is a lifetime experience one can ever have. Some finest campsites are Min Thach, Biskeri Thach and Nagaru.

IV.Photography

Sar Pass is not only a trek, but also due to its scenic beauties this place is also an ideal destination for photography. The views of snow-capped mountain peaks, beautiful verdant landscapes etc. are some views which are enough to quench the thirst of any photographer.

 

Others things to do in Sar Pass Trek

1.Manikaran Sahib

Lying along the banks of the river Parvati and located roughly at a distance of 4 km from Kasol, Manikaran Sahib is the famous pilgrimage destination for both Sikhs and Hindu. This famous place in Kasol is known for its hot springs to gurudwara and temple as well which is enough to keep each and every travellers busy. There are three hot springs in this place connected with religious and spiritual belief where one can take a bath as the water of these springs are therapeutic due to the presence of sulphur which are capable of curing diseases. The best time to come here is during the summer season from March to June when the weather remains pleasant.

 

2.Parvati River

The Parvati River flows through the Parvati valley at Kasol in Himachal Pradesh. The river is mothered by the Man Talai Glacier below the Pin Parvati Pass, flowing north through the Parvati valley and lastly flows into the Beas River at Kullu. It may not be the perfect destination for tourists to visit as one can’t enjoy the adventure activities from here as the flow of this river is quite scary and dangerous, but still it is the top attraction in Kasol. The rumbling sound of the river enables one to relax and nurture their mind and soul for those who visit this place.

 

3.Bhuntar town

Situated close to Kasol, Bhuntar is a small town in the Parvati valley. Bhuntar mainly lies in the Kullu district and a distance of 30 km away from Kasol. The small town serves as the ideal destination for almost all kinds of tourists and adventures. It is also the gateway to many famous treks of Himalayas. Bhuntar can be visited throughout the year depending on how travelers plan their trip.

 

4.Malana village

Malana is an ancient village situated on a remote plateau by the side of the Malana river and standing at an altitude of 2652 meters/8700 feet above sea level. This small village is guarded by the majestic peaks of Chandrakhani and Deo-Tibba. Malana is approximately 21 km away from Kasol. This village is the must visit one for every traveller due to its distinct cultures.

 

5.Tosh village

Tosh village is located on a hill near Kasol in the Parvati valley which is nestled at a height of 2400 meters/7900 feet above sea level. Tosh is situated close to Barshaini, which is the base point to Kheerganga Peak. This small hamlet attracts all kinds of travellers due to its beauty. Tosh can be reached by taking a bus or a cab from Bhuntar to  Kasol. Tosh can be visited on any season, in winter one will get to enjoy the heavy snowfall and in summer the weather remains very pleasant and the valley appears lush green.
